Producers showcase
A short documentary of Dr. Sushi at The Producers Showcase (filmed and edited by Minato)
Slapp Good hosted a special Producers Showcase at Capitol Modern— an evening spotlighting producers from Hawaiʻi’s professional music industry. This Producers Showcase was a little different where they showcased a young producer alongside the professionals.
At the heart of it all was Dr. Sushi (Kazu), one of Vivistop’s young producers who’s been steadily developing his sound, production skills, and creative vision. This event gave him and his fellow producers a rare opportunity to share their original work in a live setting and receive real-time feedback and encouragement from working professionals in the field.
One of the producers sharing the stage with Kazu was Bo, one of his longtime music mentors. Bo has supported Kazu through his creative growth at Vivistop, and seeing them featured in the same lineup was a proud, moment that captured the spirit of mentorship, collaboration, and mutual respect.
The evening featured:
Live beat showcases and local performers
Feedback and conversation with special guest producers and engineers
Q&A with industry professionals about workflow, sound design, and creative process
A supportive space to test new material and hear how others approach music creation
To capture the energy and impact of the night, fellow teen Vivi creator Minato filmed and edited a short documentary, which we’re proud to share above this post. His lens offered a unique behind-the-scenes perspective — one that honored not just the music, but the relationships and creative courage behind it.
The showcase wasn’t about competition, it was about growth, connection, and community. Kazu and the other youth producers shared tracks they’d been crafting at Vivistop, and hearing those sounds fill the room was a powerful reminder of how much creativity is already living in the next generation.
We’re grateful to the guest producers who took the time to show up, listen, and share their knowledge. And we’re incredibly proud of Dr. Sushi and the crew for stepping up, owning their sound, and showing us what it looks like to take your art seriously, even as you're still figuring it out.
This was more than a showcase. It was a moment. And we know it won’t be the last.
